About the game

JOZI — WAH GWAAN is a Johannesburg adventure game you play in your browser. You run deliveries through Hillbrow, the CBD, Berea and beyond, make choices that the story remembers, and learn something useful at every checkpoint. The opening episode in Hillbrow is free, and Family Adventure offers age-appropriate missions for younger players.

The story and its characters are fiction. Real Johannesburg places are used as settings, and the game's virtual currency, Jozi Rands, has no cash value.

Play offline

Members can carry on their story without internet. Creating an account doesn't download the game, so prepare your phone, tablet or laptop while you're online first:

  1. Sign in with your email in the game.
  2. Open the Jozi Phone, then Settings, then Offline Play.
  3. Download the game files and the Hillbrow opening (about 32 MB together).
  4. Wait for “Ready for offline play”.

After that you can close the game, go offline and continue from your saved checkpoint. Progress is saved on your device and syncs to your account once you reconnect. Runs you play offline are checked when you're back online, and their rewards are added then.

Signing up, purchases, district unlocks, chats, gifts, visits, live leaderboards and news need a connection. Browsers can clear stored data (for example in private windows, or Safari after a long time unused); the game tells you if a download needs to be repeated.
